I am sure you all know about the Shakti Smart ID Card, which is in the news from the last few days. This is the new initiative by the Karnataka government, which is going to ease the journey of women.
Shakti Smart ID Card Karnataka
So, basically, the Smart ID Card For Shakti Scheme is an ID card, which the government is going to provide to the women availing the benefit of the Shakti Scheme. I am sure you don’t know what the Shakti Scheme is, as it is recently launched in June 2023 by the Congress government, in which women can travel for free in government buses. Until now, women were simply showing the Aadhaar card or voter ID to the conductor of the bus and were traveling for free, but the government says this is not going right as people are showing fake IDs too.

The latest news from Deccan Herald states that Transport Minister Ramalinga Reddy announced that the Shakti Smart ID Card will be implemented in the next 4 to 5 months. They were waiting for all four transport corporations to receive digital equipment. The cabinet has approved it. So soon, these cards will be available in the market.

Why Government is Bringing a Smart ID Card for the Shakti Scheme?
The main problem is that many people are misusing the scheme. Some men are purchasing tickets for free by showing false documents, and people from outside the state are also availing the facility. Therefore, the government is spending a lot of money, around 17,313 crore rupees, and every day, 70-75 lakh women are traveling.
To stop the leakage, the smart id card for the shakti scheme is very important. If the conductor scans the smart ID card in the electronic ticketing machine, the ticket will be issued only then. This way, the government can know exactly how many people are availing the facility and how much money is being spent, as said by the minister.
