The Assam government’s affordable food items scheme is already in progress. In this scheme Assam government provide a subsidy on the essential food items like Msoor Daal, Salt and Sugar. Citizens get all these items for just 117 rupees. The actual cost of all these items is high. So this is basically a subsidy scheme for low-income families of Assam.
On the 10th of November, the Assam government launched an affordable food item scheme for the economically weaker section. Under the scheme, essential food items will be provided at the subsidised rate. There is a complete list of items that are available on subsidised rates, and this distribution will be held in the fair price shops. Every month from the 1st to the 10th, these items will be distributed in fair price shops.
With this scheme, 49696 ration cards, 151031 individuals will get benefits. This scheme will help EWS to improve their life without spending extra money on food. They can easily afford all the essential food items.
The State government of Assam launched a new Subsidised Food Distribution scheme, which is also known as Assam Affordable Food Scheme 2026. Under which the families of the state will get the essential food items at a subsidised rate or affordable price, like Masur Dal, Sugar and Dal under the NFSA (National Food Security Act). The scheme was inaugurated by the Chief Minister of Assam. With the help of the scheme government wants to provide nutritional support and strengthen food to the people who belong to low low-income group.
Assam Affordable Food Scheme
The scheme is known by both names, i.e. Subsidised Food Distribution Scheme or Assam Affordable Food scheme. In this scheme, all the citizens of the Assam state will get the essential Food Items at a very affordable rate under this new scheme. To avail the benefits of the scheme, you must belong to the low-income group family and holder of a Valid Ration Card of the state. The items like 1KG Masoor ki Daal, 1 KG Sugar and 1KG Sugar will be provided to them at Rs 117/-. But in January 2026, all these items will be available at an expected cost of Rs 100/-.
Motive of Affordable Food Items Scheme Assam
With the help of the scheme government wants to provide the essential food items for proper nutrition to all the economically weaker section families. Items will be available at Fair Price Shop, and they will buy the same items at a very affordable rate. Features of the scheme
- In this scheme, more than 70 Lakh Families, i.e. 2.45 Crore people of the state under PDS (Public Distribution System) are selected as beneficiaries of the scheme.
- All the selected beneficiaries of the scheme will be able to collect all these items from Fair Price shops using their Biometric authentication every month from the 1st to the 10th date.
- In this scheme, all the EPS dealers also get Rs 2 per kg for distributing the items to the public.
- 1KG Masoor, 1KG Sugar and 1KG salt will be available at Rs 117, very soon from January 2026, it will be reduced to at Rs.100/-.
Eligibility Criteria for Beneficiaries
- Beneficiaries or families must be citizens of the Assam State.
- Family belongs to the low-income group.
- Family is also the holder of a valid Ration card of the state.

How to Apply For Assam Affordable Food Scheme?
There is no need to apply for the scheme. If you have a Valid Ration Card of the state showing your income category, then you automatically enter the scheme. You have to get your ration card and visit to Fair Price shop, and then, using your biometric system, buy the products and then pay the affordable price of the items.
Search Name on NFSA Beneficiary List Assam
The scheme only provides the benefits to the people whose names appear in the NFSA Beneficiary List or have the Ration card. So if you want to search your name in the list, then you have to follow the steps given below.
- If you’re a citizen of the state of Assam, then you have to visit the Official website to search for your name in the NFSA beneficiary List.
- Now you will see that the home page of the portal opens in front of you. Here have to click on your state.
- Then again new page opens here, and you need to enter the details which is required to be filled.
- Then submit it. In this way, you complete the process, and the list appears in front of you. In the list name of the beneficiary, Personal Details, Family Details and Ration Card Number appeared.
