The Kalaignar sports kit scheme is now being expanded to the urban Local bodies. The Deputy CM of Tamil Nadu expanded this scheme, and they distributed 19767 sports kits to municipal corporations, municipalities, and town Panchayats. The event is organised at Vellore Institute of Technology, Chennai. This is a very good initiative started by the state government, which will encourage youth to participate in sports when they get free sports kits. Sports kits are very expensive, and youth belong to poor families cannot afford these types of sports kits.
Recently, the Deputy CM of the Tamil Nadu state expanded the already existing scheme, i.e. Kalaignar Sports Kit Scheme, in the urban areas of the state. The expansion of the scheme was launched by the Deputy CM on Wednesday, i.e. on 19th November. With this, they also inaugurated the two other facilities at the same Campus of TN Physical Education and Sports University in the Chengalpattu District of the state. Officially, this scheme was launched on 18th February 2024, initially for rural areas of the state, but now the Deputy CM has expanded the scheme to urban areas. Kalaignar Sports Kit Scheme
So the State government of Tamil Nadu launched this scheme on 18 February 2024 at Madurai. The scheme only supports the players of the rural area by providing them with sports kits. So the name of the scheme is Kalaignar Sports Kit Scheme. After getting the Complete sports kits of their sports, they can prepare themselves for better performance in the upcoming national as well as international tournaments. To implement this scheme government take the help of the Sports Development Authority of the state.
Previously, this scheme covered a total of 12,000 villages and Panchayats of the Rural area where they distributed the Free Sports Kits. All the eligible sportsman will get the free sports kit under the scheme as per their sports in which they play.
Expansion of Kalaignar Sports Kit Scheme
Now this scheme provides 19,767 Sports Equipment Kits for Urban bodies under the scheme, as announced by Udhayanidhi Stalin. In which 25 Kits will be given to Corporations, 145 to Municipalities and 479 to Town Panchayats all over the state. In these Kits total of 30 types of Equipment will be contained in each kit for outdoor as well as indoor games. The games that are included like Cricket, Football, Carrom and Chess.

Benefits of the scheme
- Under this scheme, every sportsman will receive a free sports kit according to the game they play. But only the selected Player will get the free kits.

- If they use the good kits in items, they can perform better in the upcoming national and international tournaments.
Eligibility Criteria for Sportsmen
- All players who are District/ State Level and National Level Players will be eligible for the scheme.
- Previously, only the Rural area sports persons were eligible, but now with new updates, the Urban area sports persons are also eligible for the scheme.

How to Apply For the Kalaignar Sports Kit Scheme?
- The process to apply for this scheme is only offline. So first of all, you need to get the application form from your Gram Panchayat Office or Town Panchayat office.
- Then have to fill out this application form very carefully in clean handwriting.
- After filling the form, kindly attach the documents to the form and submit them to the same office.
- Then official staff, after collecting your form send it to the Department for verification and approval of your free kit.
- Then all the selected players will be notified to collect the free Sports under the Kalaignar Sports Kit Scheme.
