Tamil Nadu Free Bicycle Scheme For Students Class 11th of BC, EBC, Denotified and Minority Community

The Tamil Nadu Government’s free bicycle scheme is one of its flagship schemes. The scheme is also known as the Amma Free Bicycle Scheme. In this scheme, bicycles will be distributed free of cost to the students who belong to backward classes, the most backward classes, Denotified community and minorities. Students who studied in class 11th in government, government-aided and partially aided schools get the benefit of the scheme without any annual income criteria. Students who live in hostels or in the school premises are not eligible.

Students who studied in class 11th and belong to backward classes (BC), most backward classes (MBC), notified community (DNC), and minority groups are eligible. In the previous sessions, like 2022-23, 2023-24, the government has distributed a total of 725419 bicycles. The total cost of the cycles is 35017.19 Lakhs. For 2025-26, the government allocated of budget of 1696 crore for school children in which includes study material like textbooks and notebooks, uniforms, footwear and bicycles.

Tamil Nadu Free Bicycle Scheme For Students

The scheme was initially launched by former Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu J. Jayalalithaa in 2001-02. The main purpose behind the launch of the scheme is to promote students to continue their higher studies and school attendance in the rural and semi-urban areas. Cycles are also an eco-friendly and cost-effective commute for students.

Recently, under the Tamil Nadu free bicycle scheme, students of the government High Secondary School Ondipudur of class 11th received bicycles. After the distribution of cycles, it is noticed that the cycles are not in good condition. There are a total of 117 students who received bicycles in the distribution ceremony. Cycles are distributed by Coimbatore MP Ganapathi P Rajkumar and DC  Pavankumar G Giriyappanavar.

Eligibility Criteria For Students

This scheme focuses on the students who are studying in government and government-aided schools. With the help of the scheme, students get an easy commute so they can reach their school on time.

• The student should be a permanent resident of Tamil Nadu
• 11th-class students are eligible for the scheme.
• Government, Government-aided and partially aided schools of Tamil Nadu come under the scheme.
• Both boys and girls who belong to BC, MBC, Denotified communities and minorities are eligible.
• Students who live in the school hostel or on the school campus are not eligible.
• The student should be attending his school continuously.

How to Avail the Free Bicycle Scheme In Tamil Nadu For Students?

• The application process for the Tamil Nadu free bicycle scheme for students is done through the school Headmaster. It is the duty of the school and the Headmaster to identify the eligible 11th-class students at the start of the academic year.
• After that, basic information will be checked, and there are no other formalities for students or their parents.
• It is the duty of the School Education Department to provide bicycles to schools. Schools will receive bicycles in accordance with their allotment.
• The bicycles will be distributed through a Distribution Ceremony.
• Online applications are not accepted, and there is no online portal for this Scheme.
